Current Statistics of Teachers in Nepal
Firstly, we must admit the fact that teaching hasn't been a dream profession for majority of university graduates especially for young heads in Nepal. Most of them choose this profession to utilize their transition period after completing university education and before joining their post graduation study. With the rapid development of information and communication technology, teaching and learning process is not the same as before. Educational sector of Nepal is also shifting it's direction towards the use of these tools and techniques. Various private as well as government schools and colleges are adopting computerized and multimedia facilitated classrooms, social medias and other educational portals to deliver their programs effectively.
On the other hand, statistics of teachers' genre is more difficult to find for general citizen. Outcome of such researches are confined to complex documents and beyond the eye of general public. I was trying to find the number of teachers with disability for a article recently and was unable to get actual data from verified source. This lead me to write this article and illustrate the facts and figures about teachers that i found during my short online research. Following are some visualizations that i have created using Excel and Power BI with data provided by Ministry of Education (Nepal Education in Figures 2016). Following diagrams depict the actual statistics of different teachers categories including Primary Level Teachers, Secondary Level Teachers, Male and Female Teachers, Teachers from Dalit and Janajati community, Community Schools and Institutional Schools etc.
According to this bar graph, central development region accounts for the maximum number of teachers(101059) whilst far-western development region accounts for least number of 32428. Eastern, Western and Mid-western development regions shares 61290, 77813 and 40097 number of teachers respectively. Centralization of more educational institutions and resources in central development region is clearly visible in the graph.
All the data above are accurate as per the educational report entitled “Education in Figures 2016” published by ministry of education in 2016 and can be accessed from official website of MOE.
Lastly, thanks for your valuable time. I’m planning to publish this kind of articles in future as well. Hope to get your feedback and suggestions to improve myself.
Thank You
