The current competition formats are a disaster
As mentioned several times before, from a mathematical perspective, the Groups Format facilitates score calculation and speculation under various instances, including matchfixing; which, unfortunately, affects the quality of the competition, the reputation and credibility of the federations/confederations and is quite adverse in the views of competitors, organizers, journalists, public and sponsors.
The current competition formats are a disaster, and that is clearly seen in the following facts. It is not my opinion, it is what is happening. I invite you to review the following information:
1) Women's World Cup: Tie between China and Spain, both qualify (Spain, third best)
2) UEFA U21: Draw 0-0 without a single shot to the arch, Romania vs France. Both qualify for Tokyo and semifinals eliminating to Italy.
3) Copa America: Paraguay in the last 4 Copas America has won only a single match, this has been enough to reach once the final and twice the Round of the best 8. All this with a single game won, and possibly, without winning this weekend, now reach the semifinals, or the final in the current competition.
4) Africa Cup of Nations: Similar effects are expected on 3rd date
5) 2026 World Cup: Teams will be able to qualify with just one point
6) FIFA admits that the third date of mayor tournaments is “problematic”, please see the following link: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/06/17/sports/soccer/match-fixing-womens-world-cup.html
It will be very interesting and a potential great contribution for sport world, not only football, to explore modelling upcoming tournaments with format solutions from MatchVision, which dramatically enhance the quality of the competition events, engagement from the public and the media and maye ven result in greater sponsorship revenue opportunities.
In sport everything evolves: food, sportswear, measuring instruments, competition rules, except competition formats. These are the same from the time of Spartacus.
MatchVision is innovation. Short tournaments without groups or direct elimination, lowering the speculation that today exceeds 50% or more to less than 6%, with competitors "forced" to win always, thanksfully to the characteristics of our formats.
