A Curious Mind

A Curious Mind

The one thing that I have noticed in the leaders that I coach is that they have curious minds. That is one reason they have engaged with coaching.

They are curious about the world around them. They realize that there is so much more to be learned in this fascinating world. Even though many of them are at the top of their profession, they are humble and acutely aware of how much more there is to learn. They know that they can be even better and this is a key attribute that sets them apart from others.

I was just talking with one of these leaders this morning and we discussed that old truism that the more you learn, the more you know - the more you realize just how much you don’t know. As we become more aware of how much we do not know - the depth of our ignorance - it has a very humbling effect. As a result, humble leaders with curious minds are always seeking to learn more and are always asking questions. As a result, they grow as people and as leaders.

Have a curious mind - stop and be awestruck by the world around you and the beautifully complex and mosaic people of this world. The more curious you are - the better leader you will become.
