Curious about giving circles?
Welcome to this week's LinkedIn-only excerpt of the Donor Participation Project newsletter! The Donor Participation Project is a community of 6,000+ fundraisers where you can network, learn, and advance your career.
This week I was hard at work for you.
Behold the first ever fundraising sea shanty!
With a donor participation flavor to boot. (Lyrics below.)
(Sing to the tune of The Wellerman.)
There once was a time when giving thrived,
Our donor base was large and wide.
But times have changed, support has waned,
Oh, we must turn this tide!
Soon may the donors return,
Their passion for our cause re-burn.
One day, when community's strong,
We'll see our mission done.
Our ship set sail with noble aim,
But fewer hands now play this game.
We need to show we value all,
From big gifts to small change.
Soon may the donors return,
Their passion for our cause re-burn.
One day, when community's strong,
We'll see our mission done.
No donor's gift should go unseen,
Each one's impact, we must convene.
To share the stories of our work,
And what their support can mean.
Soon may the donors return,
Their passion for our cause re-burn.
One day, when community's strong,
We'll see our mission done.
We'll build a bridge of gratitude,
Connect with donors' attitudes.
Invite them in to see firsthand,
The change their gifts conclude.
Soon may the donors return,
Their passion for our cause re-burn.
One day, when community's strong,
We'll see our mission done.
Create events to bring folks near,
To volunteer and spread good cheer.
When donors feel they're part of us,
They'll stick with us for years.
Soon may the donors return,
Their passion for our cause re-burn.

From social media to handwritten notes,
We'll reach out to all who've rocked our boats.
Transparency in all we do,
Will keep our charity afloat.

As far as I've heard, the work's not done,
But with community, we've just begun.
Together we'll weather any storm,
And see our mission won.
Soon may the donors return,
Their passion for our cause re-burn.
One day, when community's strong,
We'll see our mission done.

I highly recommend that we sing this in office settings, especially at board meetings.
Hope to see you soon,
