Curiosity - From A Life Coaching Perspective: Part 2
Yesterday we posed a question as to why would curiosity be an asset in life coaching if it would seem to undermine its structure and client-focused tenets.
We mentioned one positive consequence of curiosity is modeling: The playful non-judgmental form of questioning presents to the coachee a model of how to increase self-discovery more kindly.
Let explore two other benefits:
1- Provides momentum to the sessions
The nature of curiosity is that when presented with more information, it not only does not slake the thirst of the curiosity but instead feeds it.
Therefore when the coach is given more info from coachee, they get exponentially more curious, providing more and more motivation to get their clients to understand themselves the best they can
2- increases openness and resourcefulness
By giving off the message of ”I don't have the answers. You do.” It allows the coachee to feel safe to explore themselves freely.
When you are coming from a curious place, it is self-evident that you don't consider yourself to have the answers and won't judge the result.
It's co-active exploration vs. superimposing your worldview on them.
What are other benefits to curiosity? Would you agree with these three benefits?
