Curiosity - From A Life Coaching Perspective: Part 1
I was surprised to discover that curiosity is one of the fundamental pillars of being an effective life coach.
This sounded to me as counter-intuitive since the following cons of curiosity can disrupt the life coaching process:
Curiosity in an unfiltered state is for the benefit of the asker and causes aimless meandering. These are both things that contradict that life coaching is supposed to be zoned in on guided and coachee-focus sessions.
Let's clarify what makes curiosity so central to life coaching and how to avoid its potential pitfalls.
This topic will be a 3 part series.
Let’s start with one of the main pros:
Modeling
As a life coach, my role is not only to help the coachee discover their strengths and answers for themselves, but to also model behavior of how they should treat themselves.
For most forms of popular questioning, there are right and wrong answers or judgment on specific solutions.
The playful non-judgmental style of questioning presents to the coachee a model of how to increase self-discovery more broadly and kindly.
What do you think makes curiosity so central to life coaching?
I’d appreciate any suggestions, feedback, questions, and most of all compliments as this is my first post on LinkedIn.
