Curio launches ED&I report for architecture practices

‘Research shows that company profits and share performance can be close to 50 percent higher when women are well represented at the top.’

According to McKinsey’s Women in the Workforce Survey 2021

As we are in an increasingly uncertain economic climate; I acknowledge that it may be getting harder to ‘sell-in’ the concept of diversity and inclusion to senior stakeholders who are having to balance competing demands for resources.

The statistics are out there and to me they’ve always been there; more diverse and inclusive organisations lead to more successful businesses.

To move EDI from being a ‘nice to have’ to a business imperative adopted across our sector, the overall strategy must be couched in the economics of business and supported by a comprehensive behavioural and business change programme.

It’s been clear for some time that the architecture and built environment sector has always lagged in understanding the true benefits of equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI). The positive impacts are felt across the organisation, the wider industry and society at large.

In October, I had the pleasure of hosting a breakfast roundtable in celebration of the launch of my new executive search and recruitment agency, Curio. The breakfast brought together HR, business and diversity leaders from the architectural industry to talk about how to make practices more diverse and inclusive.

As a result of our discussions, I have created a reference report for architecture practice that I hope will both inspire and help to support more practices on their equality, diversity and inclusion journey.

Thank you to my brilliant guests for taking part and sharing their knowledge, experiences and insights: Ayo Abbas , Maxine Campbell , Tina Connell , Lydia Firminger , Hattie Gryspeerdt , Bridget Munro , Marsha Ramroop FRSA FIEDP and Amy Stein .
