If you're...hopping on multiple webinars per week...
...taking calls with different marketing and lead gen agencies
...buying business books that collect dust
Then I have some grave news for you.
You're showing early signs of Shiny Object Syndrome
"Can this be cured, Mike?"
"Yes, but only with intense shock therapy 3 times per week..."
I'm kidding.
But seriously, I have the cure for Shiny Object Syndrom...and frankly, it's going to seem like an elementary concept. But an effective one nonetheless.
First I want you to think about how much content you consume just simply scrolling through Facebook, LinkedIn and other social media platforms.
You may think your brain is consuming loads of content...when in reality it's simply only processing the content your subconscious mind WANTS to see.
This is your reticular activation system. This is the filter that allows certain information to pass through to the deeper parts of your brain for analysis.
I'm sure we'd all enjoy being like Bradly Cooper in the movie?Limitless...where you can just take a pill and instantaneously have the ability to consume every piece of content that hits you.
Store it...and be able to regurgitate it in milliseconds.

While the human mind is powerful...it's not that powerful (yet).
Cluttering your brain with a constant flow of new ideas halts your ability to focus on the things that move the needle for you and your business.
So how can you continue to consume information without suffering from Shiny Object Syndrome?
Here's the cure: Note Taking.
Like I said...the concept is elementary. But powerful.
Personally, I've unknowingly used note-taking for a long time to subvert Shiny Object Syndrome. It wasn't until I read a piece by Matthew Guay over the weekend, that I had a major epiphany about how note-taking (or note-taking apps) can cure this syndrome that plagues so many.
In his article - Notes apps are where ideas go to die. And that’s good. - Guay says:
“That's the true value of notebooks, notes apps, bookmarking tools, and everything else built to help us remember.?They’re insurance for ideas. They let us forget.”
Notes are insurance. They store information our brain shouldn't need to hold on to.
Shiny Objection Syndrome is a nice way of saying you have a lot of head-trash. You constantly moving in multiple directions...but never actually move FORWARD.
Think of how they put blinders on a horse before a race. These are designed to keep to the horse from viewing the other horses in the race.
Note-taking is your blinders...
Simply taking note of the "new things" you encounter gives your brain certainty that the idea you had is in a safe place...ready to be accessed at a later date.
Freeing your brain and thoughts of clutter so you can focus on the things that move the needle in your business.
