zenColor Company and Digital Solutions Group announce a strategic alliance tointegrate the zenColor? data mapping language model into Retail PLM systems.

The team at zenColor? created the first universal data mapping color language model. While it will primarily be used to index digital and non-digital datapoints for machine learning and Artificial Intelligence, it has a multitude of uses and synergies across the product lifecycle. The ability to extend Retail PLM, from mind to market, was the basis on which Brion Carroll, CEO & Principal Consultant of Digital Solution Group, and Dann Gershon, Founder & CEO of zenColor, got together to form a strategic alliance.

Brion Carroll is primarily responsible for the industry-leading FlexPLM product, acquired by PTC in 2005, which formed the basis of the Enterprise PLM market in retail. The retail PLM business segment is riddled with variances in color definition, leaving the product design and development process with no means of standardizing color data.

This is further complicated by the current inability to properly match physical products to digital images for eCommerce platforms, which has not been adequately addressed by existing PLM systems. As the online store consists of digital images that represent the physical products, precise color matches are critical. Failure to do so ends up in returns, restocking charges, and customers dissatisfaction.

Considering that color accounts for over 85% of all product-based purchasing decisions, the ability to define color data is critical. The existing market lacked the tools to address the issue until zenColor developed a data mapping color language model. This language model led to a collaboration between zenColor and Digital Solution Group. The mission was to create “digital fluidity” throughout PLM, starting with design inception and extending to the eCommerce platform.

“Dann Gershon is an expert in product workflow, with an extensive background in retail and manufacturing. Integrating this standard into PLM, along with the zenColor language model and software solutions, provides photo, 3D modeling, and retouching studios with the tools to match the color of a physical product to a digital image. That is both needed and long overdue. The color language model is a transformative influence, from Mind to Market, that helps to streamline and improve every stage of the product lifecycle.”

The zenColor data mapping language model captures the “sticky data” used to describe a color and “indexes” it into a universal language standard. The data includes a diversity of color information and systems including the internal color name and number, specification swatch reference, and digital approximation to sRGB. This allows clients to collect and create a data standard throughout the product lifecycle, starting at inception with assortment planning. The zenColor universal language code standard travels through the product lifecycle through development and is then available to match the product color to an image, embed the metadata, and is uploaded with the image to eCommerce platform. This seamlessly creates digital fluidity from “silo to silo” across the product lifecycle, allowing retailers to collect valuable data from consumer interaction in the eCommerce platform.

Digital Solution Group and zenColor will collaborate to deliver a ‘digital thread” from “silo to silo” in PLM by simply applying the zenColor universal language model to existing color libraries. The goal is to provide standardized color consistency to retailers and manufacturers, providing them with “digital fluidity” from Mind to Market.

With PLM systems that support Supply Chain portal (vendor portal) emails are eliminated between Silo1 and Silo 2. With systems integration (as per DSG's role in industry) emails between Silo 2 and Silo 3, as well as Silo 3 and Silo 4 become digitally processed establishing Digital Fluidity from Mind to Market.
