I am from southern part of India where curd rice (steamed rice mixed with yoghurt) plays a big part in our cuisine and my community. It's impact can be felt outside cuisine as people from my community is also called as "curd rice", all in a good sense of humor and we don't mind :)
When I was pondering what makes it special, then I came across an uncanny characteristics that only curd rice has which no other cuisine known to mankind has (ok, corrected - known to me).?
- Curd rice doesn't have taste of it's own, rather it amplifies what we mix with it like pickle.?
- Sometimes, we eat curd rice because we want to taste the pickle and it will not taste the way with anything else the way it does when mixed with curd rice
- When we think of having a curd rice, we already know that taste wise there is nothing to expect so it level sets our expectations
- Almost always, we come out thinking good from eating curd rice because contrary to our expectations, we would have experienced gastronomic pleasure which we didn't expect
I found the above somewhat comparable to a coach in life who wants to create an impact in people and community around.?
- A coach remember that it's not all about them but others?
- The primary aim of a coach is to make others successful in their role / life
- Coach is a leveler, so there is nothing exciting about them and often they are standing at the back, invisible
- Each interaction with a coach makes you feel good about yourselves because they always make others feel resourceful
Next time when someone calls me curd rice, I would take it as a compliment

2 年Sriram Mecheri I love curd rice ?? with pickle and small roasted dal pieces mixed in it. Being a gastronomical bong, it was a culture shock for me when I was posted to Chennai straight from college way back in 2012. Those were the formative years in my growth as a professional and also as an individual. Over time the taste of curd rice, tamarind rice, tomato rice and chicken kottu parotta became delectable for my tongue (dosa and idli included). Being in Kolkata since last 4 years has not dimmed the cravings yet. "The primary aim of a coach is to make others successful in their role / life" - I believe one needs a high level of empathy and selflessness to achieve this. And we need to traverse many miles to achieve this.
