As people age, many experience disorders linked to inflammation, oxidative stress, and muscle deterioration. Scientists are now looking into curcumin, a natural compound found in turmeric, which has strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Curcumin is gaining attention for its potential to improve brain health and muscle function in older adults.
A recent systematic review analyzed 2,256 research articles to explore curcumin's effects on age-related disorders. After careful screening, 15 clinical studies were selected for in-depth analysis. These studies focused on key conditions like Alzheimer’s disease, cognitive dysfunction, dementia, and muscle loss (sarcopenia).
Key Findings:
What’s Next?
While these early findings are promising, more research is needed to fully understand how curcumin works and to figure out the best doses for different conditions. Scientists believe that, with further studies, curcumin could become an effective, natural way to promote healthier aging.
The research has been published at Nutrients.
