Curated Savannah: Recommendations for a Romantic Getaway
The Curated Travel Collection
Ready for the Vacation of a Lifetime? Relax, we’ll take care of everything.
If you saw my recent hotel review of Hotel Bardo, you know that Dave and I had a great Valentine’s weekend in Savannah, Georgia – but I didn’t get to tell you about all of the discoveries we made in the city itself! We love it there for so many reasons…it’s one of those cities that effortlessly blends history, charm, and modern sophistication.?
Want to explore Savannah’s rich offerings? Reach out, tell us your travel dream, and we’ll make it come true.?
Our recent visit was packed with great food, lively entertainment, and unique experiences; as you know, we love to explore the world and share our discoveries with you. Here are some of the highlights of our recent romantic weekend in Savannah:
Plant Riverside District
While we spent the bulk of our visit at Hotel Bardo next to Forsyth Park, we initially stayed at the JW Marriott at Plant Riverside District for some great travel points, flight status and other perks. (One perk of staying at JW Marriott was a $36 nightly credit, which could be used at any of the district’s dining venues.) The hotel itself was perfectly agreeable, with well-appointed rooms and a prime riverfront location, but it didn’t compare to the charm and luxury we experienced at Hotel Bardo. However, what really stood out about Plant Riverside District was everything it had to offer.
Plant Riverside Dining Highlights
Stone & Webster Chophouse The first night, we were a little hungry after traveling, so we had dinner at Stone & Webster Chophouse, which turned out to be a fantastic choice. The ambiance was lovely, and the meal was excellent. Just what we needed after arriving later than expected.
Savannah Tequila Company The next day, we tried Savannah Tequila Company, which came highly recommended by locals. They even told us they drive down specifically to eat there, and we quickly understood why: the food was fantastic, the cocktails were top-notch, and the staff was incredibly welcoming.
Electric Moon Skytop Lounge For a lively rooftop experience, we headed to Electric Moon Skytop Lounge. It was a hot spot on a Friday night, attracting both locals and visitors, including some military members from Columbus Air Force Base. Thankfully, as hotel guests, we were able to skip the line and head straight in. The DJ played great music, and the vibe was electric.
District Smokehouse Another place we tried was District Smokehouse, a casual spot with open-air seating and stunning river views. While the food was just okay, the friendly staff and the unique experience of dining so close to massive cargo ships and tugboats made it memorable.
Exploring Savannah
A friend of mine, who goes by @lowcountryedit on Instagram, is a Savannah local and gave us an incredible list of must-visit spots. (Always talk to the locals!!)
The Paris Market
One of the first places we checked out was The Paris Market, a beautifully curated shop filled with Parisian-inspired finds, with a lovely little café serving delicious coffee and pastries. The market has an upstairs and a downstairs, making it a delightful place to explore. A fun Valentine’s-themed wall where visitors could profess their love made it even more special and romantic.
More Boutiques & Shops: Hannah E’s, Terra Cotta, Asher & Rye, Emily McCarthy Shoppe
Coffee Stop: Origin
We made sure to get our caffeine fix at a standout spot: Origin. They have a fantastic atmosphere and quality brews, the perfect pit stop for refueling as we walked around.
More great coffee spots: Coffee, Mirabelle, Foxy Loxy, Superbloom, and Franklin’s
Cocktails & Nightlife
Arco For a fantastic cocktail experience, we visited Arco, a bar with incredible river views, talented bartenders, and next-level drinks. Bar Julian Located at the Thompson Hotel, Bar Julian came highly recommended by nearly everyone we spoke to. It lived up to the hype, offering amazing cocktails and a stunning rooftop setting.
More highly recommended bars: Artillery Lounge & Alley Cat Lounge
Dining Beyond Plant Riverside
Common Thread For an upscale dining experience, Common Thread was at the top of the recommendation list, as it’s very popular in the lowcountry. Run by the team behind Bluffton South Carolina’s famous FARM restaurant, it’s a tough reservation to get but very, very well worth the wait. St. Bibiana We also dined at this beautifully decorated and popular Italian spot at Hotel Bardo, a really special experience with amazing food.
More great restaurants: The Grey, Brochu’s Family Tradition, Collins Quarters (for brunch)?
Our weekend in Savannah exceeded all expectations. Between the well-designed Plant Riverside District, the incredible dining and cocktail scene, our luxurious and comfortable accommodations and the city’s unique charm, it’s a destination that truly offers something for everyone. Whether you’re looking for a lively rooftop bar, a cozy café, or a fine dining experience, Savannah delivers.
This trip only scratched the surface of what the city has to offer, and I can’t wait to go back and explore even more when it gets warm and sunny out!
