Cura Day Hospitals Group Hosts Its First Non-Clinical Internship

Cura Day Hospitals Group is no stranger to hosting students completing placement hours but from December 2022 to February 2023, Cura Head Office has been hosting their first non-clinical intern. Pru Koppmann is a Queensland University of Technology student, studying Business and Communications, and has been interning under the leadership of Cura’s Marketing and Communications Manager - Bianca Clark.

?“The past two months have been a whirlwind as I interned at the head office. Coming to fruition based on an impulse decision to message one of the managers, it has been one of the most fulfilling ventures I have undertaken. Is this a very cheesy comment? – yes. But it is the best description to summarise this wonderful experience.”

?What drew me to complete my internship at Cura?

?“I was drawn to Cura through my current employment as a medical receptionist at Eye-Tech Day Surgeries – one of the many facilities under the Cura group. Working in the health industry, I realised I never considered the marketing and communications needs of a hospital which piqued my interest.”

?How did I source this internship?

?“Knowing that Cura facilities do clinical placements for health students and how supportive the company is regarding employee upskilling, I thought I’d take my chances with doing my internship at Cura as well. Initially, I was discussing with my facility CEO, Clare Barrett, if I could do it at Eye-Tech Day Surgeries but soon realised, I wouldn’t have an advisor with the industry insight I’d be searching for.”

?“So, I took to LinkedIn, found Bianca and – on a whim – sent a private message asking if there would be an opportunity to intern under her.”

?How have I found my experience here at Cura?

?“The staff at Cura Head Office were so welcoming and supportive. They treated me as if I had always been working there, including me in office celebrations and planned corporate events. I have grown fond of my desk neighbours and management team members who happily answered any question I had whether it was task-related or one of my curious queries about the industry.”

What have I learnt and achieved?

?“I got to put my education into action writing up communications plans, writing and editing copy, creating social media content and campaign ideation to name a few of the tasks I completed in my short time here. I garnered so much knowledge about the health industry, an industry not normally first thought of for marketing and communications roles, whilst refining practical and transferrable industry skills. In a personal capacity, I have learnt to ask questions and strengthened my interpersonal communication skills in a corporate setting.”

?“To the Cura and the Eye-Tech Teams, thank you for the experience and support. I am very proud to hold the title of ‘first tertiary partnered non-clinical intern’ and hope I am not the last.”
