About her coaching experience with RWC Helen says, “as a creative solopreneur it is extremely easy to lose track of where you want to go.?The business coaching with RWC’s Tor has enabled me to document the 10-year plan, 12-month plan and 3-month plan for my business, which enabled me to see a pathway to achieving my goals and dreams.

We have then broken down these ideas to see what is achievable for the next 3 months. My actions tie into my goals, being realistic with the time that I have available.

Making actions real and verbally saying them out loud gives me great accountability and a sense of urgency TO GET THINGS DONE! Which then means I feel successful and in control of my destiny. WIN WIN!”

In the news

This week it was the Independence Day of Ukraine on 24th August and the date coincided with 6 months since the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

On the Today programme on BBC Radio 4 General Lord Richards, the former chief of the Defence Staff was discussing what would happen next in Ukraine.

He quoted Chinese military strategist, Sun Tzu, who wrote “The Art of War” about 2500 years ago.?Sun Tzu said: “Strategy without tactics is the slowest route to victory. Tactics without strategy is the noise before defeat.”

In business it’s the same, we need both tactics and strategy to always complement each other as they are two sides of the same coin.

If we look at marketing here as an example, tactical marketing is the implementation of your marketing plan and the tasks you might action each day.?For example writing blogs, posting social content, organising events or sending emails.

However, if your strategy is not well thought-through and aligned with your business goals, you might implement the tactics perfectly, but it will be a waste of time and money, as the strategy will not deliver the results that you need to grow your business.

It is vital therefore, to spend the time and effort in ensuring that you have a marketing strategy that can deliver measurable results for your business before you start to spend time and money on your marketing tactics.

This week's challenge

We are at the end of August and it’s our final procrastination challenge!?We hope you’ve enjoyed our top tips and that you’ve maximised your time this month.

There is nothing that adds fuel to the procrastination fire like new ideas.?

In order not to forget them, whilst remaining focused on the job in hand, get yourself a notebook which is just for ideas.

No-one loves stationery as much as we do at RWC, so we don’t need to be told twice to rush out to our favourite independent stationer of choice to find a beautiful, shiny notebook to write all our ideas down in.

When an idea strikes, note it down, and then come back to your ideas book each week to plan the next week.

Yes, it could be a REALLY exciting new business direction, but it may also push your current direction off course.

Your challenge this week is to get yourself an ideas book and get stuck in. More on this next month where we focus is on too many ideas!
