The Cup Is Dead

The Cup Is Dead

“Why did you choose to become a monk,” the Zen master asked, what they all knew was a trick question.

“My family passed away. I was witness to the truth about transience. Everything will die and will be moved onwards to a new beginning. I am here now. I have moved on before I die.” The young monk replied.

“It is one thing to know that nothing lasts forever; it is another to actually live from that standpoint. You are a wise soul. All present here have lost a loved one. They moved on. So have we.” The Zen master appreciated the young monk.

The tea was served. The zen master’s cup was different. It was passed down from his master’s master. The tea, they said, swirled with a different vibe when poured, the steam sometimes forming messages and signs above the cup. The young monk looked on mesmerized. He did what he should not have done; he picked up the cup. It was hot and stung his hand… and he dropped it. The cup broke.

The zen master gasped. A vessel that held the message and meaning passed down from his master’s master had broken.?

He looked up at the young monk. He smiled and said, “The cup is dead. Nothing lasts forever. It has moved on. Will you?”

Story Inspired by: The Zen Tales

Summary:

Nothing lasts forever.

Your job, your term will come to an end.

- They will get a replacement for you.

Your relationship will come to an end this way or that.

- Your gap will be filled with newfound joy or stagnating depression. Something will take your place.

Your life will come to an end one day, someday, for sure.

- The body mass will be broken down and consumed by nature.

The real question is:

Where will you move on to?

Some thoughts to ponder over the weekend:

1. When my term at my current work comes to an end… I will move on to:

________________________________________________________________

2. When my relationship with ‘that person’ comes to an end… I will move on to:

________________________________________________________________

3. When my life comes to an end… I will move on to:

________________________________________________________________

I'll share my thoughts in the comment. Inspire me, guide me with yours.

Rooting for your success,

Priya Kumar

Excellent questions to ponder over! I am very comfortable answering Qs 1 and 3, but not for 2. First, I find it difficult to move on from my past relationships - even some of them are no more on the Earth... Second, for a few of my current relationships, I can think of moving on to a better relationship with self or nature - for them, I cannot think of moving on to "some other person"... However, I am not sure whether it is a "right approach" as sometimes I think there is no right and wrong and other times I think there must be something like black and white! :-) Thank you for sharing the story!

Even after death, the characters of this journey continue to murmur the vibes of hidden tales, which resonate through time and may echo the world of desires in a realm of imagination........ #dead vibes are now adorned with the thoughts that are still alive in the world of pure characters...............

At first I am grateful to you for sharing this story and I came through that at the moment when I really needed it...Now coming to your questions...When my term at my current work comes to an end, I will focus more on my counseling and coaching career getting complete bondage from this slavery… I will move on to:When my relationship with ‘that person’ comes to an end ...this has already happend & I did move on...at present in a relationship but I don't know where that heads to because of our differences ...I am already prepared to focus more on my purpose than anything else in this life… When my life comes to an end… I will move on to: how could I know this...but for sure I will be free from the body which I am gifted with and will remain as free spirit being one with the eternal energy ...
