Cultures Coverge: The Magic of IE Global Village

Imagine the vibrant tapestry of colors as flags from countries around the world flutter in the breeze, the tantalizing aroma of exotic spices and traditional dishes filling the air. The sweet melodies of Ukrainian folk songs played by a student band Rythmic Roses weave through the crowd, while the elegant movements of the Peruvian Marinera dance captivate onlookers. This is IE Global Village—a living, breathing celebration of diversity that transforms the terrace of the Serrano campus in Madrid into a global crossroads of culture and connection.

Yesterday, IE University’s Serrano campus transformed into a microcosm of the world. Students enthusiastically shared their beloved food and customs, like Ida Nydelius , who delighted attendees with Scandinavian sweet treats and cheered them on in the traditional game of kubb. Organized by IE Campus Life and the IE Net Impact with the steadfast support of the IE Foundation , this annual event underscores IE Foundation’s commitment to fostering a diverse and engaged community—a cornerstone of the institution’s values.

A Celebration of Unity and Culture

As Geoffroy Gérard , Managing Director of IE Foundation, and Sarah-Jane Fahed , member of the IE Net Impact Club opened the event, the energy was palpable. “Events like these allow us to enjoy and celebrate our differences together,” Gerard remarked, echoing Fahed's sentiment. His words rang true as the terrace of the Serrano campus came alive with stands representing the rich cultures of students from every corner of the globe.

From the graceful feminine dance of the Philippines to the Afro Beat with @DJ Mba the Global Village is more than a celebration—it’s a testament to the inclusive spirit that defines IE. It's an opportunity for students to honor their heritage and celebrate the diversity that makes IE University so appealing to international students. “The world is very globalized now, so understanding other cultures, respecting other cultures and knowing what is happening on the other side of the world is so important professionally these days, or for anything for that matter,” shared Vinay Palankar , a member of the IE Net Impact Club, the founding and organizing body of the event.

A Year of Impactful Collaboration

This year’s Global Village was not just a standalone event but part of a broader, collaboration between the IE Foundation and Campus Life. This alliance is dedicated to promoting initiatives that drive community engagement, social impact, and personal transformation. Under themes like building a diverse community, empowering student-led initiatives, and fostering well-being, this partnership supports over 15 initiatives across IE Campus Life and IE Sports & Well-Being.

Events like Global Village, Chinese New Year, Women Leadership Conference, and LGBT+@Work, among others, are all part of this strategic collaboration, designed to enrich the IE community and ensure that every student’s voice is heard and celebrated
