THE CULTURE OF STRATEGY (5)
This is the concluding edition of this 5-part post of our weekly newsletter on THE AUDACIOUS BUSINESS. We have been talking about culture and success as a business or as a nation. The principles are almost the same.
Those who exert quality mental energy are paid by far more than those who exert more of physical energy. Culture is more mental and requires a lot of mind and heart, meaning if done properly, it forms part of the system and makes your organization to be a great place to work in to attract the staff you require to be a great organization.
Culture requires planning and deliberate decisions and actions into the future of the organization irrespective of the size. It must be people centered internally and externally as they represent the culture and are to implement the culture, and they will be the ambassadors of the culture. For example, a customer-centric organization will have to focus on its people first and create a culture of prioritizing the employee and their empowerment at every level to ensure a wholistic, positive, value adding and true customer experience.
There is no culture that is not what it is meant to be that can be considered as having gone too far south to be salvaged, it can be salvaged. For startups, in that your business plan/strategy, let culture be part of it, else, that might be your undoing in the near future and, as you might not see or know then when the negative effects begin to show, you will be believing that its what my people call your ‘village people’ doing you. That means that you have ‘unseen forces’ pulling down your business while not realizing that you are the one doing the damage by not being deliberate, specific, and clear on culture.
Culture, like humans evolve, and successful organizations know this and work with that. Four years or so ago, home or hybrid work was strange in a country like Nigeria, today, with covid-19, many organizations have adjusted and are surviving while many others that have refused to change are going under.
It is believed in some quarters that culture is discuss and practice for the organization’s top elite, but my elders taught us that for culture to be strong and remain for long, it must be taught from childhood. Every staff needs to be thought the universal and team culture from even before they join in, it keeps the organization strong.
Culture defines the people, the people run the business. It defines who you hire, how effective your business model will be, how profitable your organization will be and how long your organization will live.
Coinbox Limited has always been in the forefront of ensuring that SMEs and businesses in general embrace the most efficient culture to outlive the founders and leaders but fit into (or disrupt) its external environment.
