Culture: The key lever for your EVP
The world of business has entered a new era.
Covid has disrupted how we work for the long term. Employees have discovered that they can live and work "together", not one after the other. They want the flexibility of working from home or from where they wish. The number of people working part-time has increased dramatically. The Great Resignation is putting pressure on the system. Everywhere I turn, I see my clients looking for the right people and trying to entice them into their organisation. Is it working? Not so much. Too much on offer, too many uncertainties, too many new requirements. We've entered a new era (a decade, maybe?) where employees are the ones who choose. The roles have reversed.
What does this mean? Your Employee Value Proposition (EVP) needs to be stronger than ever if you want to beat your competitors and attract talent. I predict that the war on talent has just started. In this context, it is critical that organisations pay attention to their EVP. Is it clear, compelling and unique? Is it true? Are the values and cultural attributes you're putting forward for attracting candidates truly lived in the organisation? Or are you creating a time bomb where all your new people end up leaving soon after starting?

Culture underpins your EVP like nothing else, so now is the time to work on your culture. Is your target culture clear? Does it include attributes that talent will not want to miss? Is everyone in your organisation across those? But the hard question is the following: Are you truly living the culture you say is yours? Or is there a gap (a rift?) between your espoused values and your lived values? Are you walking your talk? At Walking the Talk, we help our clients not only identify the culture they need for success based on their strategy, but we also support them in bridging the gap. Because walking your talk, being true to your word on culture, is what will make your EVP strong. In other words, what will help you successfully navigate this new employee decade that has just started.
How strong is your EVP? How strong and healthy is your culture?

2 年Very true Jerome Parisse-Brassens. In the current candidate market, coupled with the great resignation, jobseekers are looking closely at culture in their employment choices. More than ever it is important to consider what messages the hiring team, careers page, website and recruitment processes are sending about what is valued to attract the best talent. And as we know, that doesn’t come from faking it or crafting a set of catchy values to hang on the wall…

2 年Great questions, Jér?me. Is it just me, or are the gaps between Talk and Walk widening ?
