Want to take it to the next level? Focus on Culture
We learned about different approaches to Culture. Here are a few:
a)???? Hofstede: Six dimensions
b)???? Kotter: Invisible Culture vs. Visible Culture
c)????? Edmonds: Making Respect as Important as Results
d)???? Handy: Personalities and Culture
e)???? Schein: Subcultures
Allow me to introduce my own.
1)???? Static vs. Dynamic. Some parts of Culture are Static, like the artifacts described by Schein. Other parts must be more Dynamic as these are closely linked to the Strategy. If you change the Strategy, there is a good chance that the Culture of the organization needs to change as well.
Why do you think that 67% of implemented Strategies fail? Right, because these are not aligned with the Culture of the organization.
2)???? Intrinsic vs. Extrinsic The Culture within an organization can be different from how the audience perceives our Culture. We may be perceived as a warm and caring organization, because of our service level. In reality, it can be that we are a Market-driven organization that focuses on results.

In case a member of the organization can not meet the requirements, we know what will happen.
3)???? Alignment To become successful as an organization and survive in the long run, we need to have a long-term view and a Vision. That Vision can only be achieved once the Foundation of an organization is prepared. That Foundation consists of the following Components:
a) Strategy
b) Culture
c) Leadership
d) Mission
Only when these four Components; Strategy, Culture, Mission, and Leadership, are aligned and correct, do we take steps toward our Vision.
It is like Tug of War. All need to work together and pull at the same time in the same direction. If not, you’ll always lose. ?Think again about the above-mentioned 67%.
?I am sure that once Companies start focusing more on the three elements described above, Static vs. Dynamic, Intrinsic vs. Extrinsic, and Alignment of the four Components, the results will dramatically improve.
