CULTURAL CENTER IN HANOI
This project for a cultural center in Hanoi wants to redesign a peripheral area of the city and first of all wants to create a public space. Certainly a cultural center is made up of buildings. The square, on the other hand, assumes a fundamental role and it is on this large open space that the two public buildings overlook. As in the Renaissance tradition, the square is the founding element of the city and historically the religious power (the Church) and the political power (the Town Hall) overlook it. This square therefore is a key element for the community of this district of Hanoi.
In this project, the two buildings delimit and circumscribe the large square with a classical imprint, designed for public events and outdoor activities. The two buildings house a large hall-arena for concerts and events and a space for exhibitions, restaurants and service areas.
The two buildings have very simple and linear volumes. They are both covered with Corten steel panels, perforated and backlit to create a magical and joyful atmosphere in the dark.
The roofs of the two buildings are inclined to embrace the external landscape. Furthermore, the two buildings are connected on the corner by a portico that generates a second smaller square.
The glass surfaces of both buildings are quite small. In fact, shows, concerts, exhibition activities and cultural events do not require natural light, but rather an excellent artificial lighting depending on the works on display or the activities that will take place.
