Cultivating Trust & Safety

Cultivating Trust & Safety

Hi folks,

This week we held our first?Cultivating Trust & Safety?workshop for current GCI students. The workshop goes beyond the ICF core competency descriptions and is a part of our commitment to educating ourselves about power and rank dynamics that operate in our society and therefore inevitably within any organisation or community – including our own.

The workshop was part of our renewed approach to developing a common understanding of racism, homophobia and other unconscious (and conscious) biases, that have a profound but unacknowledged impact on many of our coaching clients and those unable to access coaching.

The event was initiated to build greater trust and safety within our learning community. It’s our way of building the awareness and confidence needed for us to lean into honest conversations about our diversity and experiences of being and learning together. As coaches we need to be aware of our rank and its impacts within the coaching relationship. We begin this awareness practice as a learning community.

The?Cultivating Trust & Safety?workshop, titled Building Inclusive Cultures Through Coaching would not be possible without the skill and guidance of?Nonty Sabic, who co-designed and facilitated the workshop with me. Working with Nonty has been a profound learning experience and I’m extremely grateful to her and to other students, alumni, colleagues and teachers for encouraging us to concentrate on systemic racism and other dynamics that are too often overlooked by the coaching profession. A big shout out to?Raggi Kotak?of Jedi Consulting, UK who also supported us last year to recognise the urgency of doing this work on ourselves and in the world.
