Work is so much of our lives. We are seemingly at work more hours in the day than we are at our homes. Work complexities are also seemingly higher as we’re closing out the year due to vacations and finalizing the results of our annual business objectives. Yet, work needs to be a safe haven, a place where Employees feel welcomed, feel nurtured and secure. Of the many uncertainties, our workplace needs to be somewhere we don’t find ourselves bogged down by stressors that are negatively impacting our lives, inside and outside of the work environment.
Work-life balance? What does that look like for Servant Leaders? Servant Leaders have a bad perception: some would think that because you’ve decided the road of servitude that it means that you spend the majority of your time nurturing others, ministering to others, helping others with whatever they’re in need of but the truth of the matter is that to be a great servant you must also need to serve yourselves. You must apply wisdom to know when it’s time to take rest and spend time cultivating your own environment as to avoid compassion fatigue.

How do we create a work environment where our Employees feel a sense of well-being?
1.??? Ask for Employees’ feedback. Do a poll via email asking Employees what they feel would be best to improve the work environment and be willing to actually implement these new ideas, threading them into the corporate culture.
2.??? Ask yourself, as the Servant Leader, what would a better work environment look like, for me? Then, share these thoughts with your Employees as a means of opening up the conversation. Be willing to embrace change and be the Change Agent, spearheading the way for Employees to feel like they’re inclined to participate, to share their true feelings.
