Cultivating an Entrepreneur Mindset with Idie Kesner, Dean of Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business – Ep. 19 of “Chambers Talks: A Podcast"
“Education has the power to elevate organizations and the people within those organizations.” – Idalene Idie Kesner, Dean of Indiana University – Kelley School of Business, on the latest episode of my #ChambersTalks #podcast.
A Kelley School alum myself, I’ve long been a believer that education is the great equalizer in life. As I wrote in my book #ConnectingTheDots, “Education gives you something that no one can take away – flexibility to do what you want and the process of continuous learning.” As the first woman to step into the role of dean of the world-renowned Kelley School of Business at Indiana University Bloomington, Idie set out on a mission a decade ago to reinvigorate Kelley School and cultivate an #EntrepreneurMindset for its students. The progress made since then has been nothing short of amazing.
?Idie, who, in her own words, is “a strategy professor by training,” has spent most of her career researching and teaching the elements that make up a successful organization. A key element, of course, is education. That is why Idie and other educators at the Kelley School of Business are focused on teaching the next generation of leaders and entrepreneurs how to infuse innovation and creativity into all that they do. Idie believes that adopting an innovation-first mentality in our educational institutions and business organizations will be critical for our country’s long-term success – and I couldn’t agree more. ?
?As she gets ready to start her next chapter, stepping back into the role of teaching, Idie reflected during the episode on her career and some of the key lessons she’s learned along the way. We discussed the evolving business environment, the importance of diversity & inclusion in educational institutions, how the U.S. can reach my goal of the country becoming a #StartupNation, and more. Whether you’re a student, an entrepreneur, a CEO, etc., you’re sure to walk away from this episode having learned something new. If you get as much out of this episode, as we did while recording it, leave us a 5-star review – and don’t forget to subscribe to “Chambers Talks: A Podcast Series with John Chambers” wherever you like to listen:

2 年Fantastic podcast episode! I had a nice time listening to the conversation between John and Idalene. I love what they discussed. The most successful entrepreneurs are those who have learned to think like entrepreneurs and apply this mindset to all aspects of their lives. They look at every problem as an opportunity for growth and improvement. They understand that there is no such thing as failure but only learning experiences that can make them better in the future. So glad I listened to this episode.

2 年Thank you JC for sharing so much through the years. I am at a crypto startup 'Symbridge' in Greenwich CT, my first. After working at Cisco for five years as a network consultant engineer, as well as GSA, google, Microsoft, Dell Sonicwall, and IBM Cloud, nothing can prepare you for the velocity and challenge of a startup greater than doing it, (being in one), and learning from those who have been through it. Having current educational credentials is critical as well to success I went back and completed my Masters in Information Assurance & Cybersecurity (MS-IAC), during the pandemic. Learn first hand at a start up, we are hiring! www.symbridge.com
