What is CUET(PG)?

The Ministry of Education, MoE (formerly referred to as the Ministry of Human Resource Development-MHRD), set up The National Testing Agency (NTA) as an independent/autonomous, self-reliant, and self-sustaining flagship assessment body.

The Postgraduate Entrance Examination has been assigned as a responsibility to the National Testing Agency as its responsibility alongside the UG-CUET examination at 42 Central and affiliate institutions for the academic year 2022-2023.

Students will be able to apply for participation in CUET through a single portal for participating Institutions throughout the nation.

CUET (PG) - 2022 would be administered using computer-based testing (CBT). Candidates who wish to take the test can check the Information Bulletin for Postgraduate Admissions.

Is this a new move?

YES! The Common University Entrance Test (CUET) has now been accepted for postgraduate admissions in addition to UG degree courses.

For PG degree courses, the admission test would be held during the latter half of July.

?What's the biggest advantage?

The unified test will assure merit-based admission to all centralized institutions for PG aspirants.

?When was it launched?

-CUET(PG) course has started accepting applications beginning May 19 at nta.ac.in and cuet.nta.nic.in.

-The CUET (PG) - 2022 will be administered using computer-based testing (CBT).?

-The enrolment period will be open until June 18.??

Why is it required??

The CUET comes as an interesting move as it pushes forward the many initiatives promoted by the UGC to reduce the mental stress on students, instead of the UG exams being the only criterion for admissions. The CUET also clarifies final examination pattern differences between multiple universities, private and central alike. Although the UGC has been ensuring that curriculum across government-aided and private universities remains similar for bachelor’s courses, teaching methodologies often differ between institutions leading to certain unfair advantages or disadvantages.

The CUET also eliminates subjectivity by bringing in an objective-only testing method, and questions will be MCQ-based and will have only one correct answer, thus eliminating human subjectivity in grading.

?Pros and Cons

With the headliner being unified tearing and equality - the cons of additional examination burden and stress coupled with it seem to be the only cons.?

The execution and the hassles (if any) that the students have to undergo remain a deciding factor in the CUET’s success or failure.

Do UG university exams now become redundant?

The examinations held in different colleges are, will remain, and have been achievement tests, whereas CUET (PG) – 2022 is a selection Test. Passing the UG college exams remains the basic criterion for admissions. For students who aspire to go abroad for PG, UG marks and GPAs will remain an important criterion for their admission.

So, where does the CUET fit in?

“CUET would give students a single point of contact to apply for admissions to affiliated universities throughout the country," said UGC Chairperson Jagadesh Kumar.

The crux of the matter lies deep inside the resources available on the website, in the form of the syllabus which would form the basis of the examination, which we feel is an important read for everyone reading this email.?

The success or failure; lies in the execution and the enforcement, of whether CUET PG becomes a mandate moving forward.
