Why did the government plan to have an exam which now has almost all the prestigious universities of the nation under it?
According to our expert Akash, the CUET exam represents a monumental shift in the history of examinations as per the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. This exam aims to alleviate the pressure on students by creating a level playing field for all candidates aspiring to gain admission into prestigious universities after completing 12th grade. The traditional emphasis on percentage scores, which often led to undue comparisons among students, has significantly diminished due to the CUET.
The NEP 2020 underscores the government's proactive efforts to enhance the Indian education sector. One of its most transformative steps is the proposal to integrate JEE and NEET into the CUET. This merger would allow every 12th-grade student to take a single exam, streamlining their transition into higher education. Just like how Gakao exam of China if CUET could be streamlined across the nation flawlessly for all students, it will be a big win for Indian education system.
Should each and every student take up CUET?
According to our expert Akash, the number of students from science streams is significantly higher than those from humanities and commerce. This makes it crucial to choose the right combination of subjects, which can open up a wide array of career options. For instance, a student who studied commerce or humanities in class 12 but has now developed an interest in technology can pursue a B.Tech from Delhi University with the appropriate subject combination, thus allowing a seamless transition between streams. Similarly, a student from a science background can opt for B.Com and other related courses. Therefore, it is essential for every student to appear for the CUET exam, as it provides the flexibility to switch streams without any disadvantages.
What kind of sections does the paper comprise of?
Exams like NEET and JEE have become quite saturated, following a fixed pattern. In contrast, the CUET (Central Universities Entrance Test) evolves rapidly each year, with new additions and changes to its structure. The CUET exam consists of three main sections:
1. Language Test
2. Domain Test
3. General Test
This exam offers a total of 63 subject tests to choose from. With 13.48 lakh students filling out the form this year, it is crucial for parents to understand which subject combinations best suit their children. For the Domain subjects, students need to focus on what they have already studied in Class 12th. Most students prefer English for the Language Test to keep their options wide open, as many courses require proficiency in English. Lastly, the General Test includes current affairs and general knowledge.
Choosing the right five subjects can significantly increase a student's chances of successfully cracking the CUET exam.
Why should any student take up separate coaching for this exam?
Cracking the CUET exam might seem straightforward, but there are three crucial, statistics-backed reasons why every aspirant should pay attention:

When should one start the preparation?
The debate over the ideal preparation time for exams is a common and heated one among students and parents. Some argue that starting two months before the exam is sufficient, while others believe in beginning 1-2 years in advance. However, an analysis of top scorers who have achieved 1200/1200 and are now studying in prestigious colleges like SRCC and Hindu College at DU reveals that these students typically prepared for at least 1 to 1.5 years.
Our expert, Akash, emphasizes that the CUET exam should not be treated like any other test. It has the potential to be a life-defining moment for students. According to him, two months of preparation is generally insufficient for achieving top scores. Students who prepare for only two months often find themselves compromising on college choices and missing out on significant opportunities. Therefore, thorough and extended preparation is crucial for success in the CUET exam.
How can students effectively balance CUET preparation with their regular school studies and extracurricular activities?
As per our expert Akash, it's important for parents and students to understand that the CUET exam serves as a comprehensive evaluation, encompassing subjects from the 12th grade, English, and the General Test. Contrary to popular belief, board exams are actually more challenging than the CUET. Therefore, thorough preparation for the CUET will undoubtedly lead to high scores in the 12th board exams.
The CUET exam consists of objective-type questions, where answers can be either correct or incorrect, with negative marking applied for wrong answers. This structure inherently sharpens a student's mind and enhances their preparation. Consequently, students should not worry about their board exams if they are diligently preparing for the CUET. Effective CUET preparation naturally translates to excellent performance in the 12th boards.
In summary, students should focus on their CUET preparation without undue concern for the board exams. With adequate preparation for the CUET, high scores in the 12th boards are a natural outcome.
