CUBA: Animation is alive and well
I had the pleasure this past week to be invited to lecture at the Estudios De Animacion in Havanna, Cuba. I predominately spoke about animation's role in the future of dimensional entertainment encompassing VR, AR, Auto Stereoscopic, and Holography. I have to say I was impressed by the dedication of the institute to conquer challenges we all face in modern animation production. Through their partnerships with Spain, they had recently completed their first CGI feature and are actively working in 2D AR and stop motion animation. Many misconceptions certainly were dispelled during my visit, but of course they continue to forge forward with somewhat limited access to cutting edge technology. Even with those challenges, the students displayed a real talent and passion for the art and the craft. If anyone in our industry is headed to Cuba, possibly make the studio a stop on your visit. They are a fantastic team.

8 年Glad to see you made it down there. I'm guessing full of surprises. In 2000 I brought a group of VFX artists to teach in Cuba at the International School of Film & Television. Was a trip full of surprises and rethinking assumptions.
