CSR in the World 5G Digital

Currently, we are constantly bombarded by the term ' intelligent '. Smart cities, smart cars and even smart washers. But what does this term mean exactly? How can these "smart things" contribute to corporate social responsibility?

Internet Of Everything or Internet Of Things, is the expression used to refer to the network that keeps connected devices, which collect information through sensors. The ambiguity that inspires the term in the first instance has to do with the fact that it is a reality which, despite being within the reach of technology, is still in the process of development. In fact, it's a term derived from the Smart boom Cities, trying to bring the sensors that compose these to the reach of everything and everyone.

The use of sensors in both cities and objects has an infinite utility derived from data collection and subsequent treatment, thus obtaining information that can contribute in various ways to sustainable development.

In fact, there are those who say that the Internet at all It's going to change the rules of corporate Social responsibility.

Combined, all these elements form more than the sum of their parts. An example of this could be a network of intelligent energies within a factory, which would allow us to know exactly what is the most consumed machinery, or the time of day in which there is more activity, that is, to know where and when the energy is consumed and So at what points in the chain we can reduce consumption.

Cisco, the global telecommunications company, estimates that the use of this model will produce 14.2 trillion dollars in cost savings between 2013 and 2022. But if we add to that the application of this kind of tools under the precepts of social responsibility and the challenges of economic development, the impact could multiply exponentially.

The reasons that accompany this statement derive from the Internet of things could contribute to eliminate four of the main obstacles with which corporate social responsibility is encountered: problems of traceability, inefficiency in the chain of Supply Sustainability Environmental and Measurement Of Impacts.

It is very difficult for companies to know the social and environmental conditions of their entire supply chain, and even more so if it is a world-wide chain where it is even more difficult to track the entrances and exits. This ignorance or lack of control is a reputational risk that socially responsible companies should not assume. Therefore, the Internet of things could address this problem by adding sensors for products or packaging from the first level onwards, making it harder for vendors to hide their bad practices. At the global level of the supply chain it is a matter of providing transparency and facilitating accountability by companies.

The lack of efficiency in the supply chain can be derived from the poor quality of some link in the chain or from the lack of control over the waste, for example. In front of this type of situations the use of control by sensors already has applications of all types. A case in point is those farmers who can already implant sensors on the ground that provide them with continuous information about the quality and nutrient content of the soil. Linked to mass data processing This helps them know when and what to plant, which combined with intelligent storage can reduce waste and lead to a considerable improvement in productivity.

Resource shortages and increasingly pressing climate change test the objectives of the Csr. Thus, following the example above, the establishment of sensors in the soil could reduce the use of water in the United States by 20% and the use of tractors driven by automatic and scientifically studied could lead to considerable savings in the Fuel consumption.

Companies are constantly working on avant-garde methods to identify their social, environmental and financial impacts. In this regard, the whole Internet can contribute to a more thorough and constant monitoring and the inclusion of new variables for measurement, providing more accurate and practically real-time information.

Seen in this way seems a reality very distant and even utopian, but today we are already prepared at the technological level to face these new challenges and, therefore, to give a twist to the way in which technology can contribute to the responsibility Corporate social.
