Trump II: Is it game over for the climate?
? America Deserves Donald Trump. The World Doesn’t.? – Bloomberg sums it up in one sentence. While Trump's re-election could throw the US into political chaos, it could really mess with global climate progress. During his first term, Trump didn’t just talk the talk—he walked the walk (in the wrong direction):
So, what's next?
What’s the environmental cost? According to Carbon Brief, Trump’s return could add 4 billion tons of emissions by 2030 and $900 billion in global climate damages. Yikes.
Behind the numbers ??
26.5 million m2
Big Data = Big Concrete. Data centers are expected to take up 26.5 million m2 worldwide by 2030, and that’s not just a space issue. They’re massive power and water guzzlers—and let’s not forget the carbon-heavy concrete they’re built with, which accounts for around 6% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Not exactly a climate win.

Phony quote of the day ???
“Our carbon-neutral bar features innovative tech, like floors that turn footsteps into electricity and bikes that generate power while you sip beer.” - Uber, about their pub 55k Tonnes
Uber’s latest stunt? A "green bar" to show off its eco cred and its 'eco-friendly' dreams. While they’re serving up carbon-neutral beers and letting customers generate electricity by walking around, it feels a bit… daisy-picking (literally and figuratively). Because let’s face it: Uber’s actual environmental footprint doesn’t seem to have changed much. Classic greenwashing, anyone?
The unknown footprint ??
Did you know that the 6 biggest banks in France have a carbon footprint that’s 8 times the country’s total GHG emissions? Yikes. And it's not just their operations; it’s the fossil fuel financing that really adds up.
The good news? Some banks are starting to make moves towards sustainable finance. 23 countries have joined the Net Zero Banking Alliance, promising to align their investments with a goal of net zero emissions by 2050. We’ve got all the details right here if you want to dig deeper.
