CryptoFights Developer Update: Freshly Baked Environments
Welcome back to our developer update series! We will take a closer look at our recently developed rendering system (which has already made it's way into our most recent?version of the game)!
Before we get into it, our community gets access to almost everything... before everyone else! So if you're interested in early release news, we recommend joining our?Discord?or?Telegram.
Why a New Rendering System?
Rendering is more important than we give it credit for. Complex graphics put a heavy load on your device. Graphics combine the art you see and the programming that brings it to life. Our programming extraordinaire, Ruhan, created a solution to increase game performance while increasing gameplay and visual quality. For a detailed breakdown, check out?this article.?
Freshly Baked Dungeons
CryptoFights has two main quests, and they've all been freshly baked! But, wait.. what is that? Texture baking is responsible for the detailed surfaces we see in games and how they interact with light. This means our quest dungeon environments are now more beautiful and immersive.
The first quest is Enchanted Forest, where six of our dungeons and bosses reside. The second quest is Snow Mountain, where the remaining dungeons and bosses are found. Our quest dungeons are not the only environments within CryptoFights that have recently changed. We don't want to take your whole day putting our art on display. So, if you're interested in seeing changes to our other environments, you can download the?latest version of our game?or tune in for our next article.
Enchanted Forest
If you've played CryptoFights recently, you will be familiar with the following enchanted forest environments. In the past year, we've made slight changes here and there, but our new rendering system has allowed us to make the best changes to date.
The latest environments were baked up in a matter of days. Meaning these improvements are only the beginning. We'll have to warn our veteran gamers the next time we return to edit these questlines because they won't be recognizable from their original versions
Our developer did not limit his adjustments to only texture and lighting. You'll notice new plants, rocks, water, and parts of CryptoFights 2 lingering in the background. He also turned day to dusk in a few environments, which adds more depth to your game experience as you work through our questlines.
The visual effects (VFX) are filled with elemental particles from the foliage floating around your fighter. The sun, fire, and natural crystals have a unique glow, where they interact differently from each other and within their environment.
Snow Mountain
We don't have original snow mountain environments for comparison, but we have some recent versions to reference. First, we can look at our beloved snow pit with the original art our CryptoFights Veterans are most familiar with.

Then, we have our updated environments. Not only do our latest Snow Mountain environments have more depth in lighting and texture, but you'll also see added elements like abandoned crates, glowing crystals, creeping trees, and mountains in the distance... almost as if there's more to the CryptoFights world that we already know.
Tip of the Iceberg
Observation will get our fighters far.
We developed a new rendering system to bring our fighters an improved gaming experience before CryptoFights 2 official release. But our rendering system allows us to bring you something else.
The latest environments begin to tell the story of CryptoFights, beyond the dungeons. The technology allows us to add more to our settings without bogging down your system. We didn't stop at improving the texture and lighting but instead chose to make adjustments that elude what's coming next.
In an earlier developer update, we mentioned a common request from the community to improve the quality of in-game experience over creating new experiences. We hear you. Our animations in-game have now evolved to give players an enhanced experience with improved performance.
Our team is also working on the blockchain processes, which will improve overall game stability (not to confuse with security). We're building long-term solutions between the blockchain, the internet, the servers, and you. We run on BSV and operate a little different from most blockchain games. For us,?all gameplay is recorded on-chain.
Technical Breakdown
For example, most NFT games like Illuvium or Axie Infinity do not operate fully on the blockchain. Their game should play like every other game, but their NFT rewards and items are on Layer 2 blockchain, often called "off-chain." This split system is the common access point for breached blockchain security.
Since everything you do and own is recorded on the blockchain within our game, we have a few extra steps to ensure smooth gameplay. We cannot change only the game like other games do when we make changes. To ensure smooth gameplay, we must also change the blockchain. This is an added process other games choose not to concern themselves with.
The added process is often referred to as the "Blockchain Trilemma." This addresses the challenges developers face in creating a scalable, decentralized, and secure blockchain without compromising on any facet. We simply will?not compromise?your security?for?speed, but we are getting faster every day!
These are just a few of the many changes in the works. Once again, please remember this is a?work-in-progress,?and things are?subject to change.
