Crying babies move faster on the Indian career ladder

CHRO - Building a culture of Performance Excellence with Equal Employment Opportunity & Respect, where strong talent results in successful businesses
There are enough and more instances each of us observed where a very deserving someone is sidelined by leaders and management groups in favor of someone else who seems unfit yet moves in. A world of baffled people stand by the sidelines watching how the handicapped beat a marathon runner. So really what happened here ? It is necessary to see this in the light of economics and cultural attitudes more than just organization process, policy and fairness. I for one only applaud one who can ask, lobby, beg, plead, cry or do just about any voice throwing needed to get what they want. This world in this part of the emerging markets after all belongs to the loudest voice. Being humble, self respecting, patient gets you the side seats in a country like India.
Why is anyone alarmed at awkward selections and promotions of talent at the workplace ? Why does the community of workers here even expect a smooth rally of assessments, evaluations, estimations and projections to elect the most noteworthy candidate for a better higher chair. In this country the chair goes to who nudges, hollers, freaks out others and just plonks on it. We made Musical chairs our national favorite. Whether a birthday party, an office event, child's naming ceremony, a kitty party or an offsite - the Musical chair is there for a reason. It so resonates with the Indian psyche. Take what is not yours and what you don't deserve too.
The concept of First Deserve and the Desire was coined by someone who obviously came from a well balanced society where people dint multiply like an ant colony. Where survival dint mean haggling with all and sundry, fighting for basic rights or being loud to be heard. Without making a mockery of my country that i love so much i have to present the factual reality that plagues anyone who sustains life here. We are exploding in human numbers, we are killing the environment and we are standing over each other in the drum of every day life to ensure we get a foot hold somewhere. It shows in how we have to recurrently ensure we worm ourself ahead others while standing in a queue or while driving in peak traffic. We all know as self respecting Indian citizens the value of 20 inches on a tight road at 8pm peak time. If you show decency that biker wont so we have no choice but to inch forward till your bumper is kissing the back of the other car in front. Same feelings ...same emotions and the same sub standard ways of operations are what some people bring to the workplace.
On the subject of growth, opportunities and promotions somehow Indians expect brothers and sisters to show decorum, decency, patience and dignity. When dignity, patience and fairness, has not yet been ingrained in the community system, why will we be spared at the workplace on ethics and behaviors ? So folks like me only smirk when we hear someone "book a job", ask for it, demand it, beg and cajole for it because the truth is ...that is what works here. Only a crying baby gets milk. In the land of insufficient, when someone does not cry or express pain it is assumed they are okay and will be fine. It is like the chaos of a make shift medical room outside the battle field - a nurse attends to the one who is screaming in pain - not the one quietly dying although he may be most deserving. It is a rather morbid picture to make that picture come clear - but yeah ! That's exactly the role of VOICE and DEMAND in careers in a place like India . The dignified one sleeps in its piss and a hungry stomach. Now who wants that ? So there ! If you cant survive the madness of the congestion of aspirations and energies - too bad. The crying wailing ones just increased decibel.
