Loading and unloading crushing and screening equipment from a float can be a dangerous task.
Some tips to make it a safer process
- The person tasked with performing this job needs to be trained and competent to do so.
- Use reputable float / heavy haulage companies with experienced operators that move crushing and screening equipment, grinders etc
- Flat, stable ground with no cross fall
- Check that there are no overhead wires or underground services that could be damaged
- Have an area that is clear of people, vehicles or other equipment
- Have a spotter to keep an eye on what is going on in any blind spots
- Stand away from the unit - to the back or to the front - not beside while walking along the deck or down the ramp - it could slide and crush you.
- Lowest speed possible while ascending or descending the ramps, particularly at the crossover point from ramp and deck
- Timbers or ramps are extremely useful if it is a long overhang unit like a recirc impactor or trommel - dirt or gravel onsite can also be used to decrease the angle when loading or unloading.
- If it is raining, pay close attention to potential slippage of steel tracks on steel ramps.

Great points on cost efficiency and safety in heavy haulage. What strategies do you find most effective for minimizing costs?
