“Crushing Goals”

“Crushing Goals”

This week I’m enjoying the immense satisfaction of celebrating achievement with twelve of my business associates following a seven-week challenge to qualify for an all-expense paid trip to Mexico.??This business incentive invited us to combine the power of our imagination with our goal setting skills to enable each of us to create a purpose and a vision to pursue for 49 days.

Developing this skill of goal setting is key to all aspects of our lives.?We should strive to live our life by design, giving it objectives and purpose, rather than meandering and reacting to the environment around us.?Goal setting gives us the chance to use the power of our imagination…the beginning of where any worthwhile achievement begins.?Combining your imagination with simple goal setting skills produces results that can range from satisfying when applied in a condensed timeframe, to staggering when allowed to compound over a longer period!

So, let’s talk about the skill of goal setting and how my associates and I applied it over the last seven weeks. Let’s review the steps we took to crush our goal for this incentive trip, because these steps can work for any vision you have for your life whether they're health goals, business goals, or personal goals.?Wherever your imagination can take you becomes an opportunity to set a goal. And that is always step one: setting your goal. You must have a goal in place, so you know exactly what the target is.

Number two is to map out your plan. Developing a road map to follow and breaking it down into manageable steps. My associates and I knew what we needed to do to achieve this incentive trip. We had specific, measurable, and achievable objectives which together mapped out our plan to make it happen.

Number three is taking massive action. This is where the power of your imagination takes over.?The human brain is so powerful and has so much potential that if you provide it with coordinates (a well mapped out plan with measurable steps), combined with a powerful vision that you’ve committed to, you will find yourself taking massive action which will lead to even more learning and growth which will compound your efforts.

Number four is to be consistent. Goals are achieved through consistency. This is something I discuss frequently with my coaching clients is that success can be boring!?Because you must do the little things over and over that are part of your plan to achieve the big results at the end.?The consistency of your effort over time has a compounding effect in reaching your goal.?Some days you will not feel like doing the steps your plan requires, but if the vision surrounding your goal is big enough and important enough to you, you will power through and remain true to your vision by being consistent with your efforts.

Number five is to be resilient and ready to adjust when necessary. In other words, be ready with a backup plan. ??When you’re consistently in massive action in pursuit of a goal, you will learn and grow with effort and this knowledge must sometimes be used to adjust. This is particularly true in a business like ours.

My associates and I had all designed a specific plan on paper when we started our seven-week business challenge, but many of us were forced to make multiple adjustments to our plan as we navigated through the 49-day contest period. Some associates were making strategic changes to their plan on the final weekend!

We were willing and able to make final adjustments to our plan because of step number six: we had already visualized our goal being achieved. This is so key to anyone achieving any goal. It’s what provides the fuel for the necessary action; it’s the visualization and the power of your imagination that ignites your brain to solve problems and overcome obstacles. For us the goal was an all-expense paid trip to Mexico, and the accompanying visual was picturing ourselves on the beach with swaying palm trees in the background; having a cocktail by the pool; soaking in the sunshine; running on the beach; collaborating and enjoying our time at beautiful resort.

Your mind is like a muscle that must be exercised to maximize its strength and usefulness.?You must exercise your mind by practicing visualization and goal setting.?Like anything else, this process improves as you put it into practice over and over.?As your mindset becomes stronger and you begin achieving more, you will become more guarded against negative thoughts, self-doubt, and the urge to quit.?Negative thoughts will always enter your head but you will have the ability to quickly discard them…Do I have what it takes?....Everybody else is quitting maybe I should too….. what made me think I could do this??This type of doubt will always creep in, but you will be able to knock it out of the park.

Develop and strengthen your mind by practicing visualization and goal setting. You will develop a positive attitude and a never-say-quit mindset that will help you design your life. ?Let me know if you’d like to chat about your goals, I’d love to help you.
