Crunchyroll’s Women’s Network is excited to Spotlight Annie Cook for the month of October!

The Women's Network in conjunction with National Disability Employment Month is thrilled to highlight Annie Cook, Production & Digital Associate and Lead for Anime Enabled at Crunchyroll.

Tell us a little about yourself.?

My name is Annie Cook, I have worked with Funimation, now Crunchyroll, for 16 years. I have raised my son here and met my husband here. I, like many, feel like this company is a big part of my life. I have also worked all this time with a disability. I am legally deaf as defined by the State of Texas. I have a little over 50% hearing loss in each ear. I excel at reading lips and contextual connections. I have also had incredible support from my co-workers and managers.??

Who has been the most influential female leader in your career and why??

I have been blessed with many spectacular female leaders in my career. I started working for Carly Hunter in 2008, she was the VP of Production and Creative Services. I then worked for Karen Mika, and Kelli Pitts after Carly left. I currently work for Caitlin Holter. All of these women are incredibly intelligent, thoughtful, and I learned a lot from them. Each taught me how to handle my workload, discuss issues in a reasoned way, and how to get the most out of myself.?

Are you an anime fan?? What do you think about the growing popularity of anime in mainstream pop culture, especially with celebrities, athletes, and other entertainers?

When I started at Funimation in 2006, I had never heard of Anime. I quickly fell in love not just for the properties, but mainly the people behind the Dub. I met the most amazing group of people who all worked tirelessly towards a goal of growing Anime English Dubs in the US. They inspired me and made me feel like I was a part of something greater than myself.?

As a female in the anime industry, what opportunities do you see for other women?

I see endless possibilities, there is still room to grow in all areas and I look forward to watching this company grow. As we branch out into different areas of the business I see a lot of organization and management opportunities.?

What is one piece of advice that you would give to young women starting their career?

Talk to your direct report about how you can grow with the company, or if you are just having issues. Managers are there to help us be our best, and the best managers want you to succeed and will take the time to help you.
