Cruel To Be Kind

Be kind. Be kind. BE KIND! It seems I am the hurting kind. You don't know who has their eyes on me. On the occasions I have been called "Kind" someone is taking advantage of the fact I like lending a helping hand.

For those with a kindness agenda, there is not a checklist. Posting about kindness in the hopes that people agree with you and validate you on social media (at least they don't end the post with "Agree?") does not make the world a better place.

It is like the ones who think political correctness makes the world a friendlier place. In the thirty plus years since certain phrases were changed- another story, another article. There is a serious lack of civility. I have used it as a rebellion occasionally.

When you are surrounded by jerks- nothing angers them more than civility. Fight fire with water. As I am barraged with "Be kind" rhetoric- posts on social media are not enough. I always open doors for someone behind me.

It's a nice moment. If I am on an elevator, the door is closing and someone is coming towards the door- I cannot let it close in their face. Who knows when the next one will arrive?

I do what I do. When trays are left by the trash bins at a fast food restaurant, I take them to the counter. It saves the staff the trouble of going out of their way. Put your cart back at the store. At least take it to the cart corral.

Famously I found a cart left not only in a parking space, a handicap space. I nodded my head on that one. As it was moved, the inconsiderate shopper left a bottle of Lumify Eye Drops in the cart.

It's mine now. Those are expensive eye drops and they were good to use. Does kindness get you anywhere? It isn't a Christmas Club. Americans have a view of karma that acts like there is a payoff for good deeds.

If karma existed why does Donald Trump get away with everything all the time? "Oh, you aren't being kind berating a man who insults the handicapped and the military if they get killed or captured".

There will come a time when Donald Trump is gone. Your dishonor will remain. None of which has to do with kindness. I really have no idea what that means. Shades of Red. Read this in Morgan Freeman's voice: "I know what you think it is." Do your best and don't put up a front. Make others feel better whenever possible.
