Cruden set to build 184 new homes over three Scottish sites

Cruden, one of Scotland’s largest independently owned and longest-established housebuilders and developers, has announced plans to deliver 184 new homes across three new sites in Glasgow and the Scottish Borders. The ambitious plans include 128 affordable homes and 56 homes for private sale.?

The announcement comes hot on the heels of Cruden starting work on a further 218 new affordable homes across two major developments at Silverlea for the City of Edinburgh Council and Newbyres for Midlothian Council.? This raft of recent developments have a combined value of £86m.??

Within the trio of new developments, Cruden is building 70 new affordable homes in partnership with SBHA on the site of the former Howdenburn Primary School in Jedburgh. Designed by Aitken and Turnbull architects, the 5.57-acre development will offer a mix of two-, three-, and four-bedroom homes. The site will also feature essential infrastructure, including roads, footpaths, and a sustainable urban drainage system, while preserving green open spaces to enhance the local environment.

Meanwhile, construction of 114 new homes will start shortly at the fourth and final phase of the popular mixed-tenure housing development at Toryglen, Glasgow. Here, 58 affordable homes will be built for Wheatley Group, comprising 10 mid-market rental homes and 48 social rental homes, six of which will be fully wheelchair accessible. These homes are a key part of the regeneration of North Toryglen, identified for revitalisation by Glasgow City Council.??

Work will also begin on 56 new homes for private sale at the final phase of Cruden’s award-winning King’s View development in Toryglen. This includes attractive two- and three-bedroom terraced and semi-detached homes, each with private gardens. Built to the Glasgow Gold Standard, these homes will include energy-saving technologies like solar PV panels and air-source heat pumps. With a strong focus on enhancing biodiversity, the development includes abundant green spaces, walking paths, and cycling routes, as well as features like bird and bat boxes and bug hotels to support local wildlife.

Kevin Reid , Executive Chairman of Cruden said: “Our continued work with affordable housing providers such as Wheatley Group and SBHA is vital in addressing Scotland’s ongoing housing crisis, ensuring that everyone has access to high-quality, affordable homes within their community. This announcement also marks a significant milestone as we commence construction of the final phase of our highly successful King’s View development for private sale, which has seen outstanding levels of demand.”
