I have to be honest - until recently, I really didn’t.
As I was growing my company, it was my goal to be a leader that not only encouraged excellence, but open communication amongst the members of my team.?
Because I had spent so much time investing in my relationships, I assumed that if there was ever any trouble, I would be the first to know.
I was wrong.
What I didn’t realize was that as I grew into a leadership role and power dynamics “shifted” - so did my level of influence.?
If I made a request, or asked if something was possible, I wasn’t aware that because of my position of authority people may agree when they really wanted to say no.?

I assumed “yes” meant “yes”, when it really meant “I want to say no but I don’t want to disappoint or offend my boss Kwame.”?
This is the difference between compliance and consent - and the topic of my latest conversation with Vanessa Bohns !?
As a psychology nerd, every conversation I have with Vanessa is MIND-BLOWING. This one was no different.?
My hope is that it will do the same for other leaders like myself - those who may find themselves struggling with the transition from friend/colleague to boss.?
