IS CROWDFUNDING A GOOD FIT? – SUPERCROWD 2024
[You are invited to register for SuperCrowd 2024 – April 17 and 18]
?Investment crowdfunding is not quite a Swiss army knife when it comes to raising capital, but it has extensive flexibility for use by a small business.
?The question on the table for entrepreneurs, small business owners, and advisors is whether investment crowdfunding is a ‘good fit’ for their particular business.
?Primarily, United States Regulation CF crowdfunding and similar state laws and regulations enable every adult to invest. This significant change in securities law expanded participation in the capital industry from ‘accredited investors’ (wealthy individuals with a net worth exceeding $1 million excepting the personal residence or an individual making an annual income of $200,000 or a couple making an annual income of $300,000) to everyone. Statistically, only 3% of individuals and 10% of couples meet this wealth restriction. Now, anyone can invest regardless of income level.
?The investment offer may take any form, including debt financing, revenue sharing, or equity ownership. Funding raised through crowdfunding can be paired within a capital stack with other funding from a bank, accredited investors, specialty lending, and government grants.
?A review of the presentations at the upcoming SuperCrowd 2024 event reveals the application of investment crowdfunding to a variety of businesses, business transactions, equipment and real estate acquisitions, education projects, and community projects. Crowdfunding campaigns may be hyper-targeted to motivated investor candidates within a local community to advance women's and minority-owned businesses and leverage charitable projects.
?SuperCrowd 2024 is described as “With nearly 100 esteemed speakers, including crowdfunding mavens like Sherwood Neiss and Jenny Kassan, and a cadre of experts from the Crowdfunding Professional Association, the event is a melting pot of ideas and inspirations. Our agenda covers a wide range of topics, from creating viral crowdfunding campaigns and building community investment funds to navigating regulatory landscapes and crafting compelling pitches.”

?When I design a small business investment crowdfunding campaign, I anticipate that customers of the small business are the most motivated investor candidates. This targeting includes both consumers and resellers. I will showcase my approach to designing investment crowdfunding campaigns at SuperCrowd 2024 on April 18, at Noon MDT, with a Customer-Focused Crowdfunding presentation. By crafting customer-focused investment packages that include products/services and discounts on future purchases in addition to a promissory note, revenue share agreement, or equity ownership, a small business can achieve a trifecta relationship of customer, investor, and advocate. Small businesses may also allocate part of their marketing budget to capital campaigns as they build their brand and drive sales.
?So, the most precise question is, “Can a small business take advantage of investment crowdfunding to obtain the funding it needs?”
?Answering this question will require a review of:
·?????? The number of people within the network of the small business and its leadership
·?????? The potential level of motivation to make an investment that can be crafted within an investment offer
领英推荐
·?????? The ease with which a small business can introduce their story to people they do not know
·?????? The infrastructure of the small business to establish and maintain relationships with a large number of people at the level of an investor and a small business
·?????? The availability of the small business leadership to add the time of conducting a small business to their already full plate
·?????? The capability of the small business leadership to perform all of the tasks required of an investment crowdfunding campaign or to engage contractors
?Even if a small business determines that investment crowdfunding is its best choice for raising funding, this approach to funding may not prove workable.

?DON COHEN SHOW
I was guest last Wednesday where Don Cohen and I discussed ‘negotiation’ within the framework of raising funding. The conversation revealed negotiation as a type of communication that leads up to the formalization of a relationship, but also continues during the performance of the relationship to assure an ongoing ‘win-win’ outcome.
Don is an expert on LinkedIn, particularly on the use of Live streaming to build brands and communities. We will discuss using LinkedIn as a social media platform for building communities that support raising funding.
All shows where I have been a guest can be viewed on Don Cohen's LinkedIn page under Posts.
