At a Crossroads..

At a Crossroads..

Many #womenleaders I speak to and work with are at a crossroads in their careers. Some are actively looking for a new job, having either left their previous employers or found their job made redundant in the latest round of cuts.? Others are employed in roles that no longer inspire or excite them.? All are looking for a change: a role that will allow them to bring their full potential out to play and be rewarded generously for the contribution they make.?

For many women leaders, this is not such an easy task.?

After years of following the corporate career path, what do you now do? Carry on up that path to a top leadership role with all the added workload and demands on your time and energy?

Do you really want that? Often the answer is yes and no.? Yes to the role, the status, the increased income, impact and influence.? To all you could accomplish in that role. And a big No to the crazy busy schedule that comes with it. No to the long hours, intense pressure and stresses of the role, especially if you have family to consider.

Or do you look for something different? And if something different, what? This opens up opportunities you may not even be aware of. And can introduce even more uncertainty into what you really want for yourself.? What are some of those opportunities? And how do you know what is best for you?

Opportunities abound:?

  • Pivot to another industry?
  • Set up your own business
  • Become a consultant or take on freelance leadership roles
  • Join the non-profit or charity sector
  • Take on a public sector or government role
  • If you have a passion for health and wellbeing, the arts or media, you could develop a leadership career in these spaces.
  • Take on mentoring roles or
  • Develop your thought leadership
  • Take on board appointments…

Even take time out; a sabbatical to recharge your energy and passions and explore new avenues. Acquire new skills…

The options are numerous. Often too numerous and potentially confusing. That’s why it’s important to get clear on what really matters to you; what is essential and what is non-negotiable for you to thrive in your next role.

That’s why I’ve created the Career Clarity Fast Start. Over 5 sessions, we’ll do a deep dive into three key areas of your life and work, giving you the clarity you need to choose the right career path moving forward. One that rewards you in every way: financially, emotionally, intellectually and spiritually.

Why not begin with these few questions you can ask yourself?

  1. What excites you most about leadership? Is it the power to drive change, build teams or influence strategy? Or do you seek something more personally fulfilling that leadership in its current form isn’t providing for you?
  2. What values and passions drive you? Are there interests of values outside of work that you want to prioritise?
  3. What legacy do you want to leave? How do you want to be remembered? What impact do you want to have on your industry, community or society??
  4. What’s your appetite for risk? Are you willing to take risks by switching industries or starting something new?? Would you prefer to continue advancing in your current area?
