Crossrail Secondary Linings
Cláudio Cabral Dias
Head of Ground Engineering & Tunnelling at AYESA | ITACUS | CEng MICE | OE | EUR ING
While working at Fisher Street Crossrail site we had the opportunity of constructing different waterproofing (sprayed and sheet membranes) and secondary linings (SCL and cast-in-place), which deployed concurrently in a busy site in central London created additional technical and logistics challenges to the project.
I had the pleasure of overseeing the secondary lining works as a Field Engineer for Crossrail and leading a paper on Secondary Linings lessons learnt, that has now been included on the Crossrail Learning Legacy (link to the document below).
The paper presents the construction of the Fisher Street's secondary linings, highlighting the main challenges of the project and the solutions developed by the construction team. Although, the project requirements and constraints are site specific, lessons learnt and adopted good practices can be taken forward to similar projects with reasonable engineering skill and care.
