Crossing the continent to attend LFMS23

I felt blessed when I received a letter from the Linux Foundation saying: "Congratulations! Your submission, Building an OSPO from Scratch, has been accepted for the Linux Foundation Member Summit 2023". I jumped in the air joyfully, like when we got a gift as a child.

After some time, I started to think about the logistics. I live in Brazil, and the LFMS23 conference is happening in Monterey/CA on October 24-26. It's a long-distance trip with reasonable funding requirements. Kyndryl would have other priorities for spending this money.

Long story short, I work for and with amazing people and leaders. Thanks to Gene Brown , Kiran Kuchibhotla, Stefan Pappe, Arvind Shetty (he/him/his), and Antoine Shagoury for making my attendance possible. They understand open-source software is not just a fad; it's a business model nowadays. Companies in various sectors are not just consuming OSS; they are also contributing upstream and influencing the direction of such projects.

So, if you're attending the LFMS23 (presencially or virtually) #LFMemberSummit, please check out our session here. Ingrid M. Foerster(-Dobbek) and I will discuss the challenges and lessons for building the Kyndryl open-source program office (OSPO)—its technical, legal, and security aspects.

Also, I'll give away a fewer copies of my book Becoming a Rockstar SRE signed (Not related to Kyndryl).

After all those good news, I felt humbled and grateful for a chance like this. "When it comes to life, the critical thing is whether you take things for granted or take them with gratitude." ― G.K. Chesterton.
