Crossing the Broadcast IP Chasm

Most people in technology are familiar with Everette Rogers’ Innovation Bell Curve from his book Diffusion of Innovations. Typically this curve is used to plot the adoption cycle of new technologies by consumers.

In 1991 Geoffrey A. Moore added “The Chasm” to this curve in his book Crossing the Chasm, in which he defines the chasm between the early adopters and the early majority.

In the Broadcast IP adoption curve we are still Pre-chasm, but only just, in 2018 we are on the precipice, broadcast IP equipment commoditization and maturation of SMPTE standards will be the drivers that enable crossing The Chasm into the mainstream.

But most importantly, for crossing the Chasm, broadcasters need knowledge, without knowledge the fear of choosing the wrong technology or deploying it the wrong way will delay the adoption of IP by broadcasters.

This is why we are working with APB Magazine to bring you the IP Master Class by Michel Proulx in Singapore on June 25th ahead of Broadcast Asia. This one day event is essential learning for heads of technology who are responsible for broadcast systems and infrastructure and will help guide them across the chasm into the world of the IP Media Facility.
