Cross-Regional Expansion: Why Your Business Network Shouldn’t Have Borders

Hey LinkedIn folks,

It’s Edward Ornelas, Jr. here. Today, I want to chat about something that’s really shifted the game for us at the Inland Empire Regional Chamber of Commerce—thinking beyond our own backyard. Let's dive into why expanding your business network beyond its usual borders is not just a good idea, it’s a growth engine.

Why Look Beyond Your Local Scene?

Remember the old days when business was all about your immediate area? Well, times have changed. Here’s why reaching out beyond your local area can really pay off:

  1. More Chances for Your Members: When we started connecting with businesses in places like Los Angeles and Orange Counties, it opened up a whole new world. Our members got access to new markets, new clients, and sweet partnership opportunities they wouldn’t have found if we’d stayed put.
  2. Fresh Ideas and Perspectives: Mixing it up with folks in different areas brings new ideas and inspiration. This kind of diversity sparks innovation and keeps things fresh, helping everyone up their game.
  3. Louder Voice in Bigger Conversations: The more folks you team up with, the stronger your voice. This has helped us push for changes and support that benefit a wider community, making us a heavyweight where it counts.

How We’re Making It Happen

So, how do you start making these connections? Here’s what’s worked for us:

  • Events, Events, Events: We’re all over the map, hosting events in neighboring counties and showing up wherever the action is. It’s about being seen and getting involved.
  • Team Up: We build bridges with other chambers and business groups. Sharing resources and ideas means everyone wins.
  • Go Digital: A strong online game helps too. We’re reaching out through webinars and virtual meet-ups, making sure geography is no barrier to connecting.

The Payoff

And the payoff? Our network is richer, our businesses are stronger, and we’re all the better for it. Members who used to focus just on local spots are now tapping into a broader Southern California market, finding new customers and bigger opportunities.

So, if you’re running a business or leading a chamber, think about this: stepping out of your comfort zone could be the best decision you make. After all, in today’s connected world, the only real limits are the ones we set for ourselves.

Catch you later, and here’s to breaking new ground together!

This shows that opportunity is everywhere. We just have to be willing to look for it.

That’s an incredible approach to today’s business demands. I truly value and appreciate your insight on this Edward. The only limitations that we have, are the ones we put on ourselves!!!
