Canada launching new cross border portal
Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) is launching their new digital initiative, “CBSA?Assessment and Revenue Management (CARM)” portal. This portal will become the official system to interact with CBSA, pay duties and tax for importers, freight forwarders, customers brokers and other supply chain partners.
This new system, CARM, will replace a couple of systems previously in place and the audience will mainly by B2B shipments. However, this will extend to B2C and commercial shipments in the future.
Most importantly, with this release there are now requirements for the Importer of Record to have their own account in the CARM portal, Canadian Business Number (“BN”), as well as a D120 Customs Bond. Without these requirements, shipments will not be released until all duties and taxes are paid or a release obtained causing extensive customs delays or rejections.
What this means for merchants and partners?
FlavorCloud has preemptively taken all necessary steps to ensure compliance with CARM regulations. Through our extensive carrier and customs networks, we’ll continue to offer our merchants and partners seamless anywhere-to-Canada importation without any organizational impacts under these dynamic regulatory environment changes.
