Well, I am reminded of an old term we used years ago called, “a shade tree mechanic”. I have been fortunate enough to learn how to fix my cars since I was a young person. I remember having a big repair job with my car and the cost to have it repaired at a typical auto shop or find a “shade tree mechanic” was a choice I had to make. A shade tree mechanic is basically a person who knows how to fix cars at his home for half the price of the regular auto shops. He was good, cheap, knowledgeable, not certified nor was he trained and endorsed by any major mechanical schools. My primary objective was based on price and getting back on the road immediately. I was thinking short term, perhaps even getting me through the rest of the school year. At times, a shade tree mechanic is awesome in a pinch, his quick fix and affordable pricing is what is needed. But, it doesn't always work for more technical problems beyond his scope and ability.

In comparison to staff augmentation it is best to not think about a quick fix. It is imperative to know when you run out of staff options to start or complete a project.

Generally speaking, most companies hire iT experts for 30 to 120 days or more. Surely things happen like employees go on vacation, get ill or even resign, leaving a huge opening in the middle of a major project. Right there you may need a ….quick fix.
