I. GENERAL EMERGING TECHNOLOGY NEWS
The Ronald Reagan Institute’s Center for Peace Through Strength released the inaugural NSIB Report Card, assessing the National Security Innovation Base (NSIB). This ecosystem, outlined in the 2017 U.S. National Security Strategy, lacked measurement until now. It comprises security agencies, research centers, universities, defense companies, and allies. The report aims to evaluate and enhance its effectiveness. Read More
The Department of Defense (DoD) has issued its Defense Industrial Base (DIB) Cybersecurity Strategy for Fiscal Years 2024-2027. Aligned with national defense priorities, it aims to enhance collaboration with industry, fortify governance, improve contractor cybersecurity, and bolster critical capability resilience. DoD will work with industry, academia, and research institutions to achieve these objectives.
The National Science Foundation commissioned a report by JASON, an independent advisory group, titled "Safeguarding the Research Enterprise," addressing research security in response to legislative mandates. The report offers eight findings and six recommendations, emphasizing international collaboration, risk differentiation, and fostering research security awareness. NSF aims to implement recommendations by May 24, 2024.
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and Department of Labor (DOL) unveiled the Battery Workforce Initiative's National Guideline Standards for battery machine operator apprenticeships, aiming to address the surge in electric vehicle (EV) sales and battery facility expansions. The initiative, backed by government, industry, and unions, aims to bolster the skilled workforce through rigorous training standards, advancing EV manufacturing and job creation.
II. PSF ANALYSIS & INSIGHTS
PSF's Rapid Market Intelligence Sprint - Advanced Materials Emerging Ecosystem
In a recent LinkedIn?Post, Raj Sharma talks about our continuous work with clients in the applied research communities. One question that comes up frequently is: What emerging tech areas are emerging and showing promise?
A Sanky Plot is used to detect and identify changes taking place over time. This chart shows changes taking place over time within Advanced Materials. As the lines get thicker moving to the left (closer in time), we see new areas emerging.?
Potential defense use cases include detailed analysis of materials to understand and improve the robustness of military equipment at the microscopic level. This could lead to the development of advanced materials with enhanced properties like strength, lightweight, and resistance to extreme conditions.
