Critical minerals, international policy and a just energy transition
International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED)
IIED builds a fairer, more sustainable world, using evidence, action and influence in partnership with others
The growing global demand for 'critical minerals' has soared in recent years, with materials such as lithium, cobalt and nickel being essential in the production of many technologies in the green energy transition.
With the resource rush?accelerating, how can international policy processes promote environmental sustainability, local value addition, fair benefit sharing and respect for the rights of Indigenous Peoples, local communities and small-scale producers?
This online event on 29 January will explore these issues in the light of international policy, the UN Panel on Critical Energy Transition Minerals and multilateral environmental diplomacy.?

1 个月Thank you for the great event. Lots to think about and bring forward in sustainability discussions. I love the idea of bringing this topic to COP, together with communities from the regions where critical minerals are mined.
Open to connect with start-ups and impact driven organisations to catalyse innovation, structure program development, accelerate funding and reinforce governance
