"TAKE COVER! Look out! Run! Save yourselves! Help! Man down! Medic!"
No matter which crisis you find yourself in, there are two major components that will affect how people react: STAKES and SPEED.
What are the stakes when crisis hits, such as life and death, and the speed in which crisis hits.
In my background the stakes were ALWAYS life and death, and everything happens FAST.
From an explosion or the sound of a bullet ripping past your head, to a compliant person suddenly lashing out with a broken bottle, I have always been right in the frontline of threats to life and limb. Having lead in those roles gives me an enormous amount of credibility and context in regards to dealing with the emotion of fear, and when I moved to corporate roles, a greater understanding of how emotion affected logical business decisions and components.
The following posts are the 10 steps to SURVIVING and positioning your people during crisis as a LEADER. This is Phase One of #crisisleadership
(The explanations to the titles can be found on my posts.)
