A crisis is an opportune time to prove your God given abilities.
In the year 1943, when Hirohito, of Japan and Franklin D Roosevelt of USA were engaged in the WWII, another great man was in the making, busy proofing himself.
Credited for his vision by an address to the congress in 1961 duped "landing a man on the Moon by the end of this decade and returning him safely to the Earth", John F Kennedy despite his chronic illnesses with his back, availed himself to captain a navy boat named PT109 during the war. On that fateful dark night, an approaching Japanese destroyer that had destroyed many other PT boats got them by surprise that by the time they realised, it was so close to them that they couldn't turn away from it.
Hitting their PT109 boat and splitting it into two, some of the crew members drowned and others died of fumes from the burning boat. John F Kennedy, however, spearheaded a head count while all the remaining 7 men were holding and floating on and around the the remains of their patrol boat. In a heroic manner, JKF lead the team to swimming for upto seven hours in the sea till they got to the beach on the Solomon islands, in the pacific. John F Kennedy, all the while, was pulling one of the men with a belt through his teeth since he was very good with swimming.
Upon arrival on the beach, JKF collapsed and was carried away from the beach by the very men he carried. Several days passing by and no sign of an ally ship or plane ( apart from one that saw the destroyed boat but no men around) showing up but only a rival ship passing by, they swam to another island still in search of clean water and food, they were lucky enough to find two native on a canoes. Unable to communicate with them, JKF scribbled writing on a coconut and directed the two natives to deliver them to the base commander since the two were acting as scouts for the allies. The following morning, John F Kennedy and the team would be rescued by the allies.
The PT109 incidence was a story that would elevate him to be recognised across the nation as it was futured, first in New York Times and other papers took it up later on.
Upon making to the WhiteHouse 20 years later, JKF would have the scribbled coconut placed on his desk through out his term.
I hope this story makes you realise you too can be a hero. #Greatness.
