"Crisis Cops" Joe Smarro and his wisdom is beyond words

Joe Smarro, one of the founding members of the San Antonio Police Mental Health Unit, spoke with the Curry College Students, Faculty, Boston PD, Randolph PD, Milton PD, Curry Public Safety, State Police and many others last night. I've attended so many conferences, trainings, seminars that I've lost count. This was by far the most informative and educational one that I have ever had the pleasure of witnessing. We know how "Lived Experiences" are crucial in the harm reduction field and "Institutional Knowledge" is paramount in building and growing successful agencies and corporations. Joe is all of them in one human being and more importantly he articulates these words of wisdom and golden nuggets fluidly throughout his presentation. Joe's ability to connect with his audience had them sharing their own struggles and expressed their heartfelt gratitude for him speaking with us. Every Law Enforcement, Social Justice Agency, College and University should hire Joe to present at their recruit, in-service and continuing education trainings. This training is invaluable as it gives us a deep dive into the world that we live in and how empathy, trust, respect, communication and compassion are the guiding lights to success.
