Crew Spotlight: Jean Lim
Diana Naramore
Sip and Ship in Ballard & Greenwood, Seattle: Coffee, Shipping, Gift Shop, & Notary Services. M-F 8-6, Sat 10-5. Convenient, practical, and delightful all in one place!
It always amazes us how many young, talented and brilliant crew members we are so fortunate to have on the Sip and Ship team. Even though they come and go, they add so much to the community fabric of Sip and Ship.
A year ago, Jean Lim joined our team. As an immigrant from the Philippines and recent graduate from Texas A&M, he moved to Seattle to be closer to his family, including his three sisters. Jean also wanted to get involved in energy conservation relating to nuclear energy and became a volunteer organizer for Seattle Friends of Fission (www.seattlefof.org). He also needed a job and his sisters recommended that he respond to the “Now Hiring” sign in the Sip and Ship window. Secretly, he thought, “mail, coffee, and gifts. How hard could that be?”
Jean quickly learned that there is so much more to Sip and Ship than the catchphrase, Sip, Ship, Shop, and immersed himself in the culture of Sip and Ship and has become an integral team player. “I really enjoy working on how I can better connect with people, to understand what is important to their lives and their situations. This job has helped me better understand how to relate to people, how to better fulfill their needs, work as a team player, and work to make people feel comfortable in our stores. I have taken on multiple roles in the stores, but first and foremost, I am the person at the counter to help you however you need. I am your packing and shipping consultant, mail dispatcher, business administrator, notary public, product specialist, and/or barista.”
While Jean enjoys all the roles he plays at Sip and Ship, he hopes to continue his work with Seattle Friends of Fission and other energy resources to build greater awareness about “nuclear energy, a non-carbon source to help mitigate the consequences of climate change, reduce global poverty, and to make his family proud. It seems a lot to achieve, but small steps can lead to big things.”
Jean’s Sip and Ship family could not be more proud to be able to work along his side and support his bright future ahead.
